Theatre For One:
Part of Scene ChangE

THE BARBICAN
March 12 – 22, 2026

produced by LANDMARK PRODUCTIONS and OCTOPUS THEATRICALS

Part confessional, part peep-show booth, step inside and enjoy a free, five-minute performance that showcases the best of Irish writing, performed by one actor for one audience member.

Six short plays are performed in rotation as part of this unique theatrical experience, each written specifically for this project, including writing by Enda Walsh, Marina Carr and Mark O'Rowe. Audiences are invited to join a queue and wait in line for their surprise, one-on-one performance.

Breaking the boundaries between performer and audience member, the experience 'evokes an exhilarating sense of aliveness’ (★★★★★, Guardian).

Theatre For One, conceived by Artistic Director Christine Jones, was first performed in 2003 and has been staged in public spaces across the world including Ireland, Canada and America. Landmark Productions has championed the work of Irish creatives at home and internationally for over 20 years, partnering with Octopus Theatricals to bring Theatre for One to international audiences.

Free of charge – no tickets required – just join the queue.

★★★★★

“The brilliance of these shows lies in their containment. The five minutes of each episode is long enough to remember Hamlet, prince of Denmark, who could be “bounded in a nutshell” and count himself a king of infinite space. Theatre for One offers the nutshell, and the space.”

–IRISH TIMES

★★★★★

”What is initially a discomfiting intimacy ends up being exhilarating; in an increasingly atomised world, one is reminded of the eternal truth of EM Forster’s famous epigraph: Only Connect.”
